To measure public attitudes about crime in the U.S., we relied on survey data from Gallup and Pew Research Center. Information about the federal government’s transition to the National Incident-Based Reporting System was drawn from the FBI and BJS, as well as from media reports. BJS statistics were accessed through the National Crime Victimization Survey data analysis tool. FBI statistics were accessed through the Crime Data Explorer.
